The Smart Wash®Storm is ideal for washing irregular or standard vehicles such as buses, straight trucks, tractor trailers and smaller vehicles — especially when a mixed fleet of vehicles need to be cleaned.
ROLL-OVER PRINCIPLE
Vehicles to be washed are parked in the wash bay. Traveling on floor mounted tracks, the Storm passes over the vehicle two to four times. The number of passes depends on the selected wash program. The entire operation is automatic which alleviates inconsistent wash results often experienced with drive-thru equipment.
FAST
The Storm has two variable speed drive motors that substantially increase the speed of operation. This improved design greatly reduces maintenance problems by eliminating the electric brakes.
PLATFORM MOUNTED PUMPS AND MOTOR CONTROL CENTER
The high pressure, wash water and chemical pumps are mounted on a factory assembled and tested platform for easy installation. The solenoid valve and motor control center are similarly mounted. This reduces on-site plumbing and electrical work system.
HIGH PRESSURE PUMP
The high pressure pump is specially made for this application and rated at 140 GPM @ 390 PSI. It is a vertical pump with a horizontal suction intake and a horizontal discharge.
WASH WATER PUMP
A wash water pump provides the base water stream for the chemical mixing process, and the final rinse. Pumps are 15 GPM @ 200 psi.
CHEMICAL METERING PUMPS
Two SmartWash® adjustable chemical metering pumps inject wash chemicals- Step-1 & Step-2 - into the wash water when required. They inject the chemicals downstream of the pumps, which increases the life of the system. The pump control panel receives signals from the gantry and the pumps are started. There are two separate chemical lines that run from the equipment room to the wash unit. This eliminates delays during the Step-1 and Step-2 wash cycles. An optional third metering pump is used for extra power for rear door cleaning.
2-STEP CHEMICAL SPRAY BOOM
The Storm system has a single stainless chemical spray bar with 17 nozzles. The computer decides which chemical passes through the bar at what time and also serves as the final rinse arch. It directs flow through a series of valves controlled by the computer. It also toggles at specified points to insure 100% coverage.
ALL ELECTRICAL OPERATION
The Storm is equipped with five wash down duty stainless electrical motors with two of them driving high quality, heavy-duty worm gear speed reducers. These motors and motor/gearboxes are part of sub-assemblies for easy maintenance. The electric motor/gearbox sub-assemblies provide the gantry locomotion. All limit switches are proximity-type and totally sealed
UL LISTED ELECTRICAL COMPOMENTS
The entire electrical system is encased in a stainless steel panel located on the driver side. It is composed of the finest available standard components. The most up-to-date PLC - a programmable logic controller - commands all operations. It has a large memory and telephone modem capabilities. The entire panel is approved by Underwriters Laboratories.
EASY INSTALLATION
Its compact frame, with integral splash shields, allows installation in narrow wash bays and outdoors, weather permitting. A standard electrical connection and city water is all that is required. These services are carried to the Storm via a wall or ceiling mounted festoon system.
Storm with spinners
Optional
TOTAL COVERAGE BY USING SPINNERS
Thirteen high pressure spinners — five on each side and three on top — are mounted on sub-assembly units inside the gantry frame. This design affords easy maintenance access. Each of the three spinner sub-assemblies is powered by its own electric motor, driving the spinners via cog belts.
SPINNERS
Our motor driven spinners do not require any rotation assistance from pressurized water, or a hydraulic brake. The Storm boasts spinners with 45° angles in the spinner head -- an innovation that gives unobstructed water passage and results in high nozzle pressure. Rotation of the spinner head is a variable speed 100 to 300 RPM. The shafts and spinner heads are fabricated from brass and PVC.
0° NOZZLES
Each spinner has three 0° air venturi nozzles. These nozzles are effective up to 7' from the tip of the nozzle. The angle of the nozzles can be adjusted to suit the customer's requirements, and the rotation of the spinner is against nozzle direction for greater cleaning impact. Each nozzle is adjustable to 45° off spinner axis. This gives the spinners a 90° conical coverage pattern spraying forward, up, rearward and down. This effectively covers all areas of the vehicle.
PIVOTING SIDE SPINNER ASSEMBLES
Each side spinner assembly can pivot ±30°. This allows the spinners to be AIMED at the front and rear of the vehicle being washed providing a more direct nozzle spray on the surface being cleaned. The pivoting action is a programmed feature that is actuated automatically during the wash cycle.
The pivoting action is controlled by compressed air through duplex air cylinders. The air control components are all of high quality materials and components.
GANTRY OPTIONS
The Storm can be custom designed to fulfill special requirements using a number of available options. Some of these options are:

Automatically or Manually Started Programs
Automatic Start Selection
The Auto Start mode will only function when the gantry is in the home position with the Start Select Switch set to Automatic. Also all switches on the pump panel must be set to their automatic positions.
The vehicle pulls into the wash bay when the traffic light or entry sign shows green. When the vehicle approaches the gantry close enough to break the infra-red sensor beam the traffic light will change to red and the vehicle must stop. Ten seconds after the vehicle stops the wash process will start.
Manual start Selection
The gantry must be in the home position with the Start Select Switch set to the Manual position.
The vehicle pulls into the wash bay when the traffic light or entry sign shows green. When the vehicle approaches the gantry close enough to break the infra-red sensor beam the traffic light will change to red and the vehicle stops. Pressing of the Control Power Start push button will start the wash process.
Standard Wash Program-Four Pass
-
First pass forward over vehicle
STEP-1 chemical spray -- Gantry travel speed is 30 fpm over the tractor and 60 fpm over the trailer, (fifteen second delay before the start of the return pass in order to thoroughly wash the rear trailer doors.)
-
Second pass return over vehicle
STEP-2 chemical spray -- Gantry travel speed is 60 fpm over the trailer and 30 fpm over the tractor.
Third pass forward over vehicle
Optional High pressure wash with spinners or High pressure wash -- Gantry travel speed is 30 fpm over the tractor and 60 fpm over the trailer.
-
Fourth and final return pass over vehicle
High pressure rinse -- Gantry travel speed is 60 fpm over the trailer and 30 fpm over the tractor.
-
Fifth pass forward over vehicle (OPTIONAL)
Final rinse with RO water -- Gantry travel speed is 30 fpm over the tractor and 60 fpm over the trailer.
-
Sixth and final return pass over vehicle (OPTIONAL)
Final rinse with RO water -- Gantry travel speed is 60 fpm over the trailer and 30 fpm over the tractor.
Selector Switch Options: Start—Manual/Auto.
When the traffic signal or exit sign changes to green the vehicle may exit the wash bay. Another vehicle may be washed thirty seconds after the previous vehicle exits.
